Community Profile
Barangay Panagaan is located in the north eastern part of the town proper. It is bounded in the North by Barangay Malubo and Barangay Guripan, on the south by Barangay Bag-ong Dalaguete and Barangay San Vicente, on the west by barangay Delusom and on the east by Barangay Bag-ong Argao in the Municipality of Molave Zamboanga del Sur.
POPULATION
According to the Records Review from the Census conducted as of 2012 by Barangay, Panagaan is home to a total population of 861 with 216 households, with an average of 5 individuals living together under one roof. Among the total population of the barangay, 425 or 49.4% are males and 436 or 50.6% are females. This population is roughly 1.91 % of the 45,141 (FHSIS, 2012) total population of the entire Municipality of Mahayag.
The barangay is politically divided into 5 puroks, conveniently designated to specific Purok Leaders for purposes of easy information dissemination.
HOME AND ENVIRONMENT
About 40.50% of the houses and lots among the residents of the barangay are owned meanwhile 38.28% of the houses and/or lots are rent-free with the consent of the owner. Moreover, majority of the houses are made with combination of light materials, wood and concrete.
Barangay Panagaan has a total land area of 547.07 hectares which is classified as an upland area. Upland habitats are cold, clear, rocky, fast flowing rivers in mountainous areas; wherein most of the land is devoted to agriculture by the residents.
POLITICAL
The barangay follows a unitary form of government wherein the Barangay Chairman is the head of the Barangay. Currently, the position is filled by Hon. Manolito O. Castro, along with his seven (7) kagawads and five (5) purok leaders.

The Barangay Government Structure of Panagaan is composed of the Barangay council, with the Local Special Bodies and the different committees. The Local Special Bodies play a big role in the development planning of the barangay and the community as a whole. The Local Special Bodies organized in the barangay are the following to wit;

ECONOMIC
Farming is the primary source of livelihood among the residents of the community. Their economic resources are from rice, coco, corn, fruit trees, vegetables, and livestock. Majority of the residents raise different animals like hog for fattening, sows, goats, carabaos, cows, horses and chickens to earn more income from these livestock and poultries. To further state the type of income that working individuals earn, their kind of job favors more on the blue–collared compared to white–collared. Majority of the population are farmers, followed by government and/or private institutions employees.
CLIMATE
Barangay Panagaan has distinct dry and wet seasons, having fairly warm temperature throughout the year. The winds in this area are generally light blowing from north to south during rainy day and from east to west during dry season. The dry season usually starts on the month of November to the month of May while the succeeding months of wet season.
SURFACE DRAINAGE
The barangay has three major water bodies which are in good physical condition.
